Terms of Service
Plain-language agreement covering the free tier, paid credits, refunds, and what we can't promise.
What BiblioCheck does
BiblioCheck takes a PDF, plain text, or .bib file
containing academic references and tries to verify each entry
against CrossRef, Semantic Scholar, and (optionally) Google. We
surface DOIs, flag entries we can't confirm, and let you export the
result as Excel or BibTeX.
Free tier & credits
BiblioCheck charges one credit per reference verified. Signed-in accounts get 50 free credits per calendar month; anonymous browsing is allowed but submitting a manuscript requires sign-in. The free allotment lands when you sign up and renews each month while you're not on a paid plan.
Two paid options:
- Subscriptions (Pro $9.99/mo for 3,000 credits, Ultra Pro $99.99/mo for 30,000 credits) — auto-renew monthly. Unused subscription credits roll over up to 150% of the plan; anything above the ceiling is forfeit at renewal. Cancel anytime from the Customer Portal — your subscription stays active through the period you've already paid for.
- One-time pack ($9.99 for 1,000 credits) — no auto-renew. Pack credits expire 12 months after purchase.
Subscription credits are spent first; pack credits next, in order of soonest-to-expire. The current pricing is shown on the pricing page.
Refunds
If our pipeline crashes or you cancel a verification mid-stream, the credits for the references we didn't actually process are auto-refunded as a fresh pack lot — you'll see a "credits refunded" line in the result view. Successful runs are not refunded, including runs where many references come back as "not found": the verification process itself is the deliverable and "not found" is a valid, useful result. For other problems — wrong result, accidental purchase, dispute — email d.duque25@gmail.com and we'll review it. Refunds processed through Lemon Squeezy zero out the corresponding pack lot automatically via webhook.
Seller of record & taxes
Paid credits are sold to you by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record on our behalf. They are the legal seller for tax purposes: they calculate, collect, and remit any applicable VAT, GST, or sales tax at checkout. The price shown on the pricing page is the price charged; tax (where it applies) is itemised on Lemon Squeezy's receipt. For consumer-protection claims, chargebacks, or tax invoices, contact Lemon Squeezy directly via the link on your purchase receipt; for product questions (credits, verification, refunds), contact us.
Accuracy & warranty
BiblioCheck is a verification aid, not a substitute for human review. We compare your references against external databases and tell you what we find, but those databases are themselves incomplete. A "not found" result doesn't mean the reference is fake; an "OK" result doesn't mean it's perfect. You remain responsible for the bibliography you submit to a journal.
The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Abuse rate limits or sign up multiple Google accounts to dodge the free-credit allotment. The free tier exists so the tool stays approachable for occasional users; sustained evasion may get the offending accounts blocked.
- Submit content you don't have the right to process. Please don't upload other people's unpublished work without their permission.
- Resell BiblioCheck verifications as your own service.
Account suspension
We may suspend accounts that abuse the service or violate these terms. Suspension freezes the balance; we'll refund any unspent credits on request unless suspension was for fraud or chargeback.
Changes to these terms
If we make meaningful changes, we'll show a banner and ask signed-in users to re-accept. Cosmetic edits don't trigger that.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BiblioCheck's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $20 if you haven't paid us anything.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. If you and we can't resolve a dispute informally, the courts of the operator's residence have exclusive jurisdiction.
